A YouTuber got himself in hot water after pulling off a stunt titled ‘Spending 24 Hours at the Airport Without Getting Caught’. Now, he’s facing some serious legal trouble.
According to the Indian Express, Vikas Gowda, an Indian YouTuber, found himself in cuffs after the police caught wind of his latest video. In it, he claimed to have camped out at Kempegowda Bengaluru International Airport without anyone noticing.
Vikas breezed into the airport on April 7 with a legit ticket for an Air India Bengaluru-Chennai flight (AI-585) around noon. However, instead of boarding the plane, he just wandered around the terminal.
On April 12, Vikas dropped a video on his YouTube channel boasting about his supposed 24-hour airport adventure, making wild claims about lax security. He bragged about slipping under the radar of airport staff.
But when the video blew up, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), in charge of airport security, wasn’t amused. On April 15, they hauled him in for spreading fake news. He was let off the hook after posting bail, and the video got yanked from his channel.
“An investigation found that Vikas only hung around the airport for four to five hours and never actually flew to Chennai. Since it was a domestic flight, he didn’t need to go through immigration,” they revealed.
“He wasn’t at the airport for more than 24 hours, despite what he claimed in the video. We nabbed his phone, which we’ll be handing over to the court. Looks like he did it all for some cheap publicity,” a cop said.
Vikas now faces charges under sections 505 (spreading false information) and 448 (trespassing) of the Indian Penal Code. He’ll have to face the music when the cops call him in for a chat.
