When one considers the prospect of traveling, usually the first thought that comes to mind is to call to a taxi right away, especially if it is too early in the morning. However, people from Singapore have done the exact opposite. Instead of booking a quick 16-minute taxi ride to Changi Airport, three friends decided to walk almost ten kilometers at night. The story became sensational in the media since it reminded about how wonderful it is to travel.

That surprised many journalists was not only about the distance the girls walked. What struck people was the fact that girls were feeling secure well enough to walk for hours on empty streets in their city at 3 a.m. Thus, it became yet another reason why Singapore is believed to be one of the safest countries in the world.

The journey started in the vicinity of Tanah Merah where girls checked Google Maps before they took off. The application indicated a distance of about 9.37 km and promised that the whole journey would take them a little more than two hours. However, instead of changing their minds, girls laughed at such a distance and packed.

At one point, Angie recorded their experience and posted it on TikTok with the caption, “peak unemployment activity.” The video became instantly popular and gathered more than 180,000 views in just one day. People were entertained to see this unusual way of getting to the airport.

Of course, getting from Point A to Point B did not happen completely just like that, without difficulties. At some point, the group faced a dark tunnel without much light, but they managed to turn on their phones and use them as flashlights. Even this creepy moment turned into another cool story later.

The streets along the route were very deserted. There were only a few cars on the roads; no pedestrians; plenty of sidewalks connecting different districts of the city made the walk enjoyable.

After approximately two and a half hours of walking, the men arrived at Singapore Changi Airport at around 5:04 AM. They got there on time; they still had time to get on their 7:00 AM flight, which proves that their spontaneous decision was right.

The reactions flooded the internet very quickly. Many applauded the women for their vivacity, while others tried to point out the implications of the journey for Singapore itself. It was also noted by some commenters that the fact that the three women walked peacefully long distances before sunrise indicated the safety of the country.

Some comments were even more ludicrous. Some people said that they could hear the sounds of their suitcase wheels creating a lot of noise as if the women were walking for nearly 9 kilometers in dead silence. Others seemed puzzled by the fact that the women did not seem to get hot even in Hong Kong weather, which is known for its hot and humid climate.

This story started a discourse about the ways of travelling. Through their decision, the women turned the regular flight transfer into a journey which millions would watch and would be entertained by their experience.
