In a shocking incident, two Delta Air Lines planes collided on the runway at Atlanta Airport, USA, on Tuesday (10/9/2024). Thankfully, no one was injured.
According to Stuff.co.nz, the larger plane crashed into the tail of a smaller regional jet. Fortunately, all passengers were safely transferred to another flight.
Delta Air Lines, based in Atlanta, confirmed that the wing of a Delta Airbus A350 heading for Tokyo clipped the tail of a smaller Bombardier CRJ-900, operated by Delta’s subsidiary, Endeavour Air, as the planes were on the runway.
The smaller plane was prepping for takeoff en route to Lafayette, Louisiana. A meteorologist shared his harrowing experience on X (formerly Twitter).
It was terrifying. There was a loud scraping of metal, then a huge bang. Everyone’s fine though—no fire, no smoke.
He even posted photos of the smaller jet’s tail lying on the runway.
Delta confirmed that the larger Airbus also suffered wing damage.
Meanwhile, officials at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said passengers from one of the planes were bused back to the terminal, while the other aircraft taxied back on its own.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also stated that they’re conducting their own investigation.
Airport officials downplayed the incident, describing it as a “minor disruption.” But for those on board, it was anything but minor!
