Tourists’ Funny Stories from Bali: Thinking Locals’ Homes Were Tourist Spots

When stunning spots around the world draw in tourists, you can bet there’ll be some hilarious encounters when locals and visitors meet.

According to a post on Express UK last Wednesday (10/4), a Reddit user called J_J_R spilled the beans on living in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“I live in a UNESCO World Heritage city, and tourists often think the whole place is one big museum. I’ve seen tourists pressing their noses against our windows to peek inside our homes, or even opening gates and wandering into our yards,” they chuckled.

They once had to shout at a tourist who wandered into their house and used the loo out of the blue. Apparently, they missed the ‘closed’ sign, mistaking the house for a tourist spot again.

In the comments, another user shared their Bali adventure. They remembered an early morning stroll when they mistook a local’s house for a tourist attraction.

Thinking it was an open temple, they stood at the gate. They locked eyes with the lady and asked if it was open.

Despite the mix-up, the Balinese lady kindly invited them inside to take a look around. They got a crash course on traditional Balinese homes.

A similar mix-up happened with folks living on the coast of Norway. A hotspot for cruise ships, tourists often get the wrong end of the stick.

They shared how cruisers often hop off and assume every place is open for exploring. They’ve even caught tourists wandering into locals’ gardens without a second thought.

The moral of these tales? Wherever you go, always be polite.
