Nepal Urges Tourists Not to Remove the Country From Their Travel Plans

Nepal is striving to revive its economy after severe flash floods resulted in significant destruction all over the country. Because tourism is one of the key earning sectors of the country, the government is advising international visitors not to cancel their journeys.

On Tuesday, Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism put out a video message requesting foreign visitors to keep on coming to Nepal in this hard time. The Minister underlined that all of Nepal’s paths and trekking routes are open in the present time.

“Our mountain paths and trekking routes are there to welcome you,” pointed out the Minister referring to the vital role tourism plays in providing assistance to people affected by calamity.

Nepal Has Been Saying That There Are Many Open Tourist Objects

The ministrystressed that although floods did great damage to some regions, the whole country was not affected equally. There are working airports, hotels, and tourist attractions.

The Minister called on foreign citizens to keep their trips of Nepal. Even though there is a disaster here, it is important for the advice of the Minister to be listened to.

It has been projected that the floods have resulted in over NPR 50 billion in losses for the tourism business in Nepal. With over 142 hotel establishments, 57 restaurants, 141 vehicles related to tourism operations, and 27 sites of cultural importance damaged and destroyed.

The tourism sector has been directed to submit the details of the damage caused to the business.

Tourism is a source of livelihood for millions of Nepalese people.

This incident has influenced the significant sectors of the economy of Nepal, which primarily includes tourism and hydropower industries. Historically, both industries have attracted a lot of investments in the last ten years.

Tourism ranks third in the nation’s economy. Nepal is known for its beautiful landscapes and its highest mountains including Mount Everest which are visited by many tourists coming from all over the world.

One million international tourists travelled to Nepal in 2015. It must be noted that tourism industry generates billions of dollars revenues and earns wealth for many workers including drivers, trekking guides and hoteliers.

Visitors can support efforts of Nepal

Nepal needs to maintain its tourism industry for reasons far beyond simply ensuring a stream of visitors. The stable influx of global tourists can generate funds for communities that depend on them for their livelihood.

Hence, the minister called upon visitors who have already considered Nepal as their destination not to take it off their itineraries.

He said that by just traveling, tourists are directly able to contribute to the recovery process because they can stay in local places, use local transport, hire guides, and spend money in the businesses that rely on tourism.

The government of Nepal expects that people traveling to the country will regard their trips as not only a great holiday but also as an effort to help the country recover from the crisis situation after a catastrophic flood.
