Singapore’s Changi Airport just made entering the country a whole lot easier for tourists. Now, visitors can use the automated immigration lanes without needing to register first.
As reported by VN Express on Monday (May 20, 2024), Changi Airport is rolling out this new feature to make the immigration process quicker and smoother.
This new system cuts down wait times to just 40 seconds on average to get through the automated lanes.
Tourists can now use their iris and facial biometrics for immigration clearance, meaning no need to show a passport.
Singapore being the first country to let all travelers use the automated lanes without registration.
Before, only Singapore residents and citizens from 60 countries could use this service.
In the first three months of this year, about 16.5 million passengers passed through Changi Airport, exceeding pre-COVID numbers for the first time.
Last year, foreign visitor numbers shot up by 115%, hitting 13.6 million.
Even though Doha’s Hamad International Airport snagged the title of the world’s best airport at this year’s Skytrax awards, Changi Airport was still named the best in the world for immigration services.
