Changi Airport’s rolling out something cool – a brand-new eco-friendly hotel, and get this, it’s zero-energy! According to VN Express on Thursday (9/5), it’s called Hotel Indigo Changi Airport. This green gem is set to open up shop in Terminal 2 of Singapore’s Changi Airport come 2028.
Hotel Indigo Changi Airport is like a seven-story oasis, chilling on top of a bus station at the southern end of the terminal. You can stroll right in via a snazzy connecting walkway.
It’ll be the third hotel in Changi, joining the ranks of YoteLair in Jewel Changi Airport’s fourth floor and Crowne Plaza Changi Airport in Terminal 3. But here’s the kicker – this one’s gonna be the first to go zero-energy.
What’s in store? Well, think 255 rooms, a rooftop day club, bar, and a sick infinity pool with views of the runway, airport roads, and skyline.
And how do they do it? Solar panels, hybrid cooling systems, naturally breezy corridors, rainwater harvesting tech, and greenery on every darn floor.
Around 16.5 million peeps touched down at this airport in the first three months of this year, beating pre-pandemic levels for the first time in each quarter. And last year, the number of foreign visitors to Singapore shot up by 115% to 13.6 million.
But even with all the hustle, Changi Airport lost its top spot in the annual Skytrax awards for the world’s best airport. That title went to Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
