Two months prior to opening, tickets to the Pokémon-themed amusement park (which is actually the first park of its kind in the world) have sold out. Hype is totally insane.
Tucked away in the green hills of Tama (Tokyo) is the newest addition to Japan’s attractions, PokePark Kanto, and it has quickly become a dream destination for Pokémon fans everywhere. It opened up on 2/5/2026, and demand for the park immediately took off.
What sets this park apart from others that are based on nostalgia is rather the experience it provides visitors with. At PokePark Kanto, you will find an area styled after a real-world Pokémon hunting ground complete with large outdoor area and forest-type themed walkthrough experienced with Pokémon character statues are located throughout.
Unexpectedly, the park also saw a record number of international visitors, demonstrating just how strong Pokemon’s fan base has become.
The original Pokémon was created in 1996 for the Game Boy from an idea that stemmed from collecting insects during the summertime as a child (the hobby actually originated in Japan). That idea gradually evolved into what we now know as Pokémon — lots of future generations of pokemon fan will look back fondly to these days in history!
PokePark Kanto has two main areas: an outdoor trail that stretches 1,500 metres with many Pokémon sculptures, and a city-like area that reflects the world of Pokémon, with plenty of rides and shops. If you’re going to visit the forest area, prepare yourself to climb approximately 110 steps without assistance – as that is part of the park’s physical requirements. The entire attraction covers an area of 26,000 square meters and contains approximately 600 hidden Pokémon statues, so every time you come to visit you’ll have a different experience with a new adventure/scavenger hunt.
When guests enter PokePark Kanto, they are greeted by large Pokémon statues to welcome them into a dream come true from their childhoods.
What’s even cooler: This is a permanent park, created by The Pokémon Company of Japan within the Yomiuriland amusement complex (which happens to be also the largest theme park area in Tokyo).
So, if you ask yourself if Pokémon matters after many years of being around, the answer is a definite yes! Pokémon has come a long way. From a kid collecting bugs to becoming a world-renowned entertainment company, Pokémon has now become a real life adventure.
And with tickets selling out rapidly, what happens next is sure to be even more amazing!
