Packing clothes can be a bit of a puzzle, especially with all the new tricks and tech out there. But when it comes down to it, what’s the simplest, most fuss-free way to get those clothes in your bag?
Well, according to a recent study by the folks at Which?, the old-school folding method still takes the cake.
They found that good old folding let them cram 67 pieces of clothing into a regular-sized travel bag. Not bad, right? Vacuum bags? They managed only 60 pieces after sucking out the air. And compression cubes? They squeezed in just 66, thanks to those pesky gaps.
In the end, using four different-sized travel bags (two small, two medium) and sticking to folding got a whopping 129 items in there. That beats out rolling (121 pieces), compression cubes (118), and vacuum bags (113).
“The simplest and quickest method wins,” the study said. They recommended folding in suitcases with wide openings and square corners. If you’re using a backpack with a half-zip, just tuck those folded clothes inside.
Sure, folding might leave your clothes a bit less neat, but it’s a breeze compared to rolling. Rolling can be a real hassle, especially if your clothes are too big for your bag.
And those vacuum bags? They might squish your clothes down, but they leave lots of empty space in the bag and can still leave you with wrinkles.
Compression cubes got a thumbs-up for keeping things organized and easy to find, but they weren’t the most efficient.
So, when it comes to packing, keep it simple. No need to splurge on fancy gadgets. Just fold your clothes and pack ’em in!
