Imagine being on a flight that suddenly starts acting up mid-air. That’s what went down on United Airlines Flight 613. This flight, scheduled to jet from Lagos, Nigeria, to Washington D.C., had to turn back after some unexpected movements caused injuries on board.
Here’s the scoop: United Airlines confirmed that the Boeing 787 aircraft made a safe emergency landing back in Lagos on Friday morning (Jan 24). Unfortunately, four passengers and two crew members got injured during the turbulence and had to be treated at a hospital. Luckily, all of them have been discharged.
What Happened on the Plane?
During the chaos, passengers recorded the scene inside the cabin, which looked like a disaster zone—food, drinks, and other stuff scattered everywhere.
The flight had 245 passengers, 8 crew members, and 3 pilots on board when things took a turn. While the airline hasn’t pinned down the exact issue, they’re working closely with aviation authorities in both Nigeria and the U.S. to figure out what went wrong.
Not the First Time
This isn’t the first time a Boeing 787 had a shaky moment. Back in March, a similar incident happened during a flight from Sydney to Auckland. The plane experienced intense turbulence that injured around 50 people.
In that case, an investigation found that the turbulence was partly caused by a crew member accidentally pressing a button on the pilot’s seat, shifting it forward at just the wrong time.
Safety First
United Airlines assured passengers they’re digging deep to get to the bottom of this and prevent it from happening again. For now, it’s another reminder of how unpredictable flying can be—even on modern jets.
Bottom line? Everyone walked away safe, but that’s a flight no one’s forgetting anytime soon.
