Passenger Goes Berserk at Check-In Counter, Threatens to Hit Officer

The day began innocently enough in Kansas City International Airport until it suddenly became very chaotic when a male passenger became extremely agitated at a Southwest Airlines check-in desk by screaming obscenities, threatening fellow passengers and staff members while acting in an unbelievably disruptive manner that shocked everyone around him.

As observed by several eyewitnesses, his anger escalated rapidly with him making aggressive statements and later threatening to strike one of the female employees before turning his attention to recording herself on video with her phone. Shortly afterward, the video circulated around the world of this incident.

Stress is Not Acceptable

Many bystanders noted that the man repeatedly boasted about who he was and ridiculed airline employees, indicating to them that he was from the United Kingdom. At one point he forcefully hit an airline employee’s computer monitor. Once he was told to step away from her space, the man then screamed louder than before.

During the incident, several airline employees attempted to intervene on behalf of the female employee when they warned him that they could contact the police. The man’s typical reaction was to use vulgarities towards them and to scream at them that he didn’t care if he got arrested. Additionally, despite the other airline employees trying to intervene on behalf of the employee, this male passenger would not settle down.

The travellers who were nearby would have likely attempted to diffuse the situation as well. Rather than taking the high road and moving on, the passenger continued to challenge them by becoming even more aggressive in his response to them. Although he had been at the airport very early in the morning, and he was obviously upset with this delay, this statement did not generate any sympathy from the other two passengers.

The original confrontation was during an investigation that resulted from an airport security issue that resulted in an interruption of airport operations for a period of time due to the presence of police and federal agencies. Parts of the airport were closed for a limited period of time due to this investigation by the police and federal agencies, but later that day, airport officials confirmed that after the investigation, all operations returned to normal, all flights were rescheduled and counters were reopened, therefore normal airport operations resumed.

Although the incident and the video that was available online were highly intense, the airport officials did not make any announcement regarding whether the passenger filmed in the video was arrested or if any further questions were asked about the person in the video.

The story ends abruptly. There was no arrest, no apology; it shows how travelling through an airport can cause certain individuals a full mental breakdown.

We all know how difficult, tiring and uncertain air travel can be but when passengers start threatening the air crew, that doesn’t usually lead to a happy ending for anyone involved.

Airport travel can really put our perseverance to the test. The reactions of people during those times will be what people ultimately will remember and talk about.
