To get straight to the point—nobody came away with serious injuries, but that tourist could have been looking at a much worse day than the one he had. Picture this—jumping off a moving boat and missing the dock altogether—that is exactly what happened in Bangkok just recently.
The internet, as you can imagine, went wild.
A Leap of Regret in Bangkok
Near Terminal 21 along Rama III Road in Bangkok, a tourist from South Korea placed a leap of faith that didn’t quite land. For real. This guy decided, while the ferry was still slowing down to dock, that he just couldn’t wait to get off the boat.
Yep. Splash.
No Injuries, But Instant Embarrassment
Thank goodness for the ferry staff and a couple other people nearby, who quickly threw ropes and extended hands and used the boat’s power to push away slightly from the dock so he wouldn’t be crushed by the punctured ferry in his negotiations with gravity.
In the end, he was pulled safely out of the water, wet, but presumably very, very embarrassed. And not hurt.
No Wonder it Went Viral
Back in Korea the whole thing was captured on film and spread like wildfire on social media.
“He embarrassed all of us,” said one.
“Could he not have waited, like, five more seconds?” said another.
And then there was the forgotten comment, ” He could’ve easily been smashed between the wall and the boat.”
Ouch!
It’s Just a Ferry, Not a Race
Understandably, travel often generates a sense of hurry. But ferries are not speed races. They dock. You get off. What, are you someone who’s being chased and has to escape like Jason Bourne? You don’t need to reenact an action movie.
If this individual was looking for a thrill, I’d recommend bungee jumping instead—with a harness of course.
Travel is about experience and stories, and perhaps the odd harmless mishap. But next time, please wait for the boat to dock. Because believe me, no one wants to go viral for the wrong splash!
Let’s keep tourism exciting—but not that exciting!
