Singapore Hotel Wins World’s Best Skyscraper Award – And It’s Not Just About the Height!

So, what’s the big deal about a Singapore hotel winning “Best Skyscraper in the World”? Is it just tall and shiny? Nah, there’s way more going on here.

According to CNN on Thursday (10/10/2024), this stunning structure, called Pan Pacific Orchard, isn’t your typical high-rise. Sounds dreamy, right?

What makes it so special? Well, the council calls it a “hotel in nature” that brings a groundbreaking approach to high-density urban living. Basically, it’s like they built a luxurious hotel and stuffed it full of nature, but make it 140 meters tall!

But here’s the kicker—it doesn’t even feel like a massive building. According to Hong Wei Phua, the architect from Singapore-based firm WOHA, the goal was to design something that felt more like a neighborhood than a skyscraper. And trust me, they nailed it.

The design divides the tower into four unique layers, each with a different nature theme: Forest, Beach, Garden, and Cloud.

The Forest Terrace, located at ground level, is open to the public and features flowing water and dozens of plant species native to Singapore. So yeah, you’re pretty much walking into a mini jungle when you enter.

Then there’s the Beach Terrace, complete with a pool surrounded by palm trees (cue the tropical vacay vibes), and a Garden Terrace where guests can take a stroll around a rectangular courtyard.

And at the very top? The Cloud Terrace, which serves as a green event space overlooking the city. Imagine hosting a wedding or party up there!

Plus, each level isn’t just a pretty face—it’s functional. These layers act as giant shades, keeping the lower levels cool and dry in Singapore’s warm and rainy climate. Talk about practical beauty!

Oh, and did I mention most of the hotel’s 347 rooms have balconies overlooking these breathtaking landscapes? Yup, and the hotel’s not just about nature and zen—there’s a massive 400-person ballroom, two restaurants, and a rooftop solar-panel canopy. Because of course, it’s eco-friendly too!

So next time you’re in Singapore, maybe skip the usual tourist traps and treat yourself to a stay at the Pan Pacific Orchard, where nature meets luxury in the sky.
