Qatar, known for its opulence and ambitious projects, is at it again. This time, they’re preparing to launch a multibillion-dollar theme park.
Located in the Middle East, Qatar is famous for its luxury. From grand buildings and flashy cars to iconic landmarks, the country exudes extravagance.
One of Qatar’s most impressive feats was hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which attracted thousands of tourists. Now, Qatar aims to draw even more international visitors by constructing the Simaisma theme park, a USD 5.5 billion venture.
According to Breaking Travel News on Monday (July 8, 2024), the project, led by the state-owned company Qatar Diar, will be situated 40 minutes north of the capital, Doha.
This massive development will cover eight million square meters along seven kilometers of beachfront. The plan includes an 18-hole golf course surrounded by 300 villas, hotels, a beach club, as well as residential areas and retail shops.
The theme park itself will span 650,000 square meters. To run the facility, Qatar in talks with some park operators .
The primary goal is for the theme park to serve as an initial attraction to bring in visitors and investors.
The theme park is part of the government’s strategy to diversify the economy and boost the tourism sector.
Interestingly, Simaisma isn’t the only new theme park in the region. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions predicts that the theme park industry in the Middle East and Africa will grow by over USD 470 million this year.
In 2023, attractions in the Middle East and parts of Africa generated USD 24.3 billion in revenue. Rich Countries in middle east are competing to build the impressive landmarks.
For example, the UAE is developing a Harry Potter-themed park with a secret budget and opening date. They also have a Ferrari-themed park. Recently, Dubai replaced its Bollywood park with a Real Madrid-themed attraction.
