Some travelers think hitting the gym before a flight will help them relax and catch some Zs during the journey. But according to the experts, that might not be the best idea.
As reported by Escape.com.au on Wednesday (28/8/2024), Ms. Beard, the Sleep Health Manager at AH Beard Sleep Health Center, advises travelers to steer clear of intense workouts before flying. Instead of working up a sweat, it turns out that kicking back and being lazy might be the key to staying relaxed throughout your flight.
“To go into overdrive when you should be resting, sleeping, and recovering from the stress of travel,” says Beard.
However, she’s not totally against moving around a bit—light activities like yoga or a stroll are still fair game.
When it comes to battling jet lag, Ms. Beard has some solid advice. She suggests gradually adjusting your body’s internal clock to the destination’s time zone before you even get there. This way, your body’s already on track when you land. She also emphasizes the importance of timing your meals and caffeine intake wisely.
Whether you’re catching a full night’s sleep or just squeezing in short naps, She suggests wearing comfy clothing and footwear to keep your body comfortable during the flight.
Ms. Beard even throws in a pro tip for sneaker lovers: loosen those laces, or better yet, wear supportive sandals with socks for maximum in-flight comfort.
