Piano Land, The Halal Cruise Ship from Malaysia

Malaysia71 Views

There’s a massive cruise ship, the M/V Piano Land, that is about to set sail from Malaysia, and it is completely designed with the Muslim traveler in mind (halal food, no alcohol, prayer spaces, family fun, etc.). It is essentially the first “officially marketed” Muslim friendly luxury cruise ever and it is about to change halal tourism.

Before we discuss where it will be sailing, the size of the boat, etc., the interesting aspect of this story is why this boat is important. For the past several years, halal travel has mainly been hotels, restaurants or maybe some Islamic tours on land. Cruise ships? Not really. There are bars that serve alcohol, kitchens, random meal options, prayer spaces, etc. which most of the time, Muslim tourists are forced to go to other options.

So somebody asked, “why not build a cruise ship where Muslims don’t need to worry about any of it?”

Enter Astro Ocean Cruise in partnership with Hwajing Travel & Tours, and M/V Piano Land was created.

The Boat, Itself

Somewhere in the middle of this story, literally speaking, is the boat itself:
-10 decks
-880 cabins
-Capacity 1,760 passengers

That is basically a small floating city. And yes, it is designed not only to be luxurious, but quite literally very Islamic-friendly, with quiet spaces, different levels of rooms, and facilities that allow guests to experience a vacation feel without giving up their Faith.

An Introduction That Occurs Later in The Story

The ship’s first cruise is set to depart Port Klang, Malaysia, on 29 November. Where? A 3-night cruise along the west coast of Malaysia – Penang, Langkawi, then back – all in 3 leisure-filled days in beautiful, warm weather.

The ship buzzed before anyone even boarded. During MATTA (a Muslim-Friendly Travel Fair), the location of the ship was like the Malaysian way of saying, “Halal Tourism is not only for land based, we can float too.”

Halal Food and Beverage with Confidence

Some travelers are concerned with sightseeing. Some travelers are concerned with food. Muslim travelers are often concerned with both, but often the food is the stress part. Not with the ship. Everything is halal, 100%.

The food that seemed to be getting the most attention was Hong Kong-style roasted duck.
For beverages, there are many non-alcoholic beverages, from mocktails, juice, and hot drinks, that are refreshing, trendy, and enjoyable.

Leave the guesses out. You won’t have to ask staff 4 times if something is halal. No need to worry.

Prayer? Not a Problem

It is nice not to have to squeeze worship into random empty spaces. Piano Land offers:

  • Designated prayer spaces
  • Respectfully separate “male area” and “female area”
  • The Qibla will be always provided in the space
  • Timetables will be provided based on the ship’s location in the water

That’s… kind of unbelievable, considering you’re actually praying on an ocean.

Families Aren’t Excluded

  • Kids get play clubs.
  • Adults get spas and fitness rooms.

So grandma relaxes, dad goes to the gym, mom takes pictures, and the kids just go crazy—and no one argues.

So Where Does This All Lead?

Managing Director Kenny Cheong told that this cruise is here to show that you can indeed have Islamic values while living a luxury travel experience. It is about hospitality, respect, and being welcoming to people from all backgrounds—not just Muslims.

Halal tourism is also growing around the world at a brisk pace. The marketplace is predicted to surpass $300 billion by 2030, and Malaysia clearly wants a bigger piece of that ocean-sized pie.

So yes, the world’s first officially Muslim-friendly luxury cruise is officially sailing. An entire ship dedicated to halal dining, prayer comforts, family fun, and no alcohol in sight. For travelers wanting a beautiful ocean experience while respecting their faith, M/V Piano Land is the new travel trend sailing into the horizon.

This story began at the end then sailed to and around—by some means we ended back at the beginning. Quite fitting for a cruise, no?
