Many individuals across Southeast Asia opt to seek medical treatment in Singapore, known for its exceptional healthcare services. The truth is, the caliber of doctors and healthcare facilities remains consistently high.
Yet, there’s a noticeable lack of awareness regarding these medical experts and their services. Naturally, when someone falls ill, they seek personalized care and aspire to recover with top-notch healthcare.
Eligibility Criteria for Patients Seeking Medical Care in Singapore
Effective from September 7, 2021:
- Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) commenced accepting applications from pre-existing patients desiring medical treatment.
- Pre-existing patients are those who have had a face-to-face encounter with the respective doctor treating their condition. Telehealth consultations are not counted.
- Should a patient previously treated in Singapore by Doctor A wish to switch to Doctor B, they are categorized as new patients.
- Application submissions should be made approximately 14 days beforehand.
Requests submitted before September 7, 2022, need to be resubmitted.
Effective from October 19, 2021:
- Singapore’s MOH expanded their application acceptance to both pre-existing and new patients seeking medical treatment in the country.
- Steps to Seek Medical Care in Singapore
- When opting for medical treatment in Singapore, adhering to the established regulations and procedures of the Singaporean government is essential. Here’s a concise outline of the crucial steps:
Securing a Referral Letter
Before planning your trip to Singapore, ensure you acquire a referral letter from your previous treating doctor. This letter aids the new doctor in understanding your medical history, ensuring a precise course of treatment.
The referral letter encompasses vital details, including your current health status, medications, medical history, and health records, providing comprehensive insights.
Don’t forget to carry your medical documents, such as ultrasound reports, X-ray results, blood tests, MRI scans, and other pertinent records.
Choosing a Hospital and Physician
The initial step involves selecting the hospital and specialist doctor you intend to consult in Singapore. Reach out to the hospital to confirm their capability to address your medical concerns and request a doctor’s recommendation.
Dispatching Your Medical Portfolio
Once you’ve decided on your medical destination in Singapore, the selected doctor should promptly report your medical condition. As a new patient, you’ll need to dispatch a medical portfolio along with yours and your companion’s passports to the team, ensuring both passports are valid for at least six months from your departure date.
Awaiting Approval
If the specialist doctor consents to overseeing your treatment, they will forward an application to Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) for your entry. The MOH will meticulously review your medical records.
Upon approval of your case, you can proceed with your medical treatment in Singapore. However, if either the specialist doctor or MOH denies your request, this decision-making process may span 3 to 4 days.
Booking Flight Tickets
Once you’ve secured approval from the MOH to seek medical treatment in Singapore, you can book a commercial flight. Before departure, both you and your companion should undergo PCR tests and chest X-rays. The PCR test should be conducted no later than three days before your departure.
Commencing Medical Treatment
Once you’ve fulfilled all the necessary steps, your chosen medical specialist will initiate treatment based on their expertise and your condition.
List of Required Documents for Seeking Medical Treatment in Singapore
- To embark on your medical journey in Singapore, ensure you prepare the essential documents:
- Medical documents, including your medical records, medical history, test results, current medications, and information on allergies if applicable. These documents are vital for linking you with the appropriate specialist.
- Travel documents, such as passports, flight tickets, and insurance documents if your medical expenses are covered by insurance.
- Ensure your passports remain valid for at least six months from your departure date.
- Allocate a budget for your medical expenses and determine the means of payment. Calculate an estimated budget based on the Singaporean currency exchange rate and verify that your credit card is accepted in Singapore.
