What was supposed to be a thrilling vacation for a Chinese couple in Thailand turned into an unimaginable tragedy.
According to Straits Times, the incident occurred on August 1 at Jungle Flight Chiang Mai, where the couple had just wrapped up an exhilarating zip line adventure. But things took a devastating turn as they were crossing a suspension bridge.
As they made their way across the bridge, which was about 15 meters above the ground, a large tree suddenly toppled over. The impact was so severe that it flung them off the bridge, sending them crashing to the ground below.
Witnesses described the horrifying moment when the couple was violently thrown into the air.
Emergency responders from the Erawan Rescue Center rushed to the scene and quickly transported Jing Chen, 44, and her husband Liu Yang, 46, to the nearest hospital. Sadly, Jing Chen didn’t make it, passing away in the ambulance, while Liu Yang sustained multiple fractures and is now being treated at Chiangmai Ram Hospital.
On August 2, Deputy Chief explained that the zip line company had insurance policies in place—up to one million baht (USD 37,700) in case of death, and up to 500,000 baht for injuries. Pongsiam assured the family that they would receive assistance with the insurance claims.
Moreover, officials contacted the Chinese consulate in Chiang Mai to support the family further and care for their young son until Liu is able to return home.
The police are investigating the accident to determine what went wrong. Pongsiam also urged other adventure companies to be extra cautious, especially during the rainy season when natural hazards like falling trees are more likely.
What started as an exciting holiday quickly became a nightmare that this family will never forget—a grim reminder of how unpredictable life can be.
