A baggage handler named Adam has shared insights into which suitcases are more likely to be thrown around during baggage handling. But what types of luggage are most at risk?
During peak travel times, suitcases are sometimes mishandled or even tossed, Adam admits.
At most airlines, baggage compartments aren’t equipped with special bins, so the baggage crew must manually stack the luggage inside, and the compartments can be quite long, as reported by Express.co.uk on Wednesday (25/9/2024).
Adam mentions that if your suitcase is equipped with high-quality wheels, it can make it easier for baggage handlers to move it quickly, reducing the likelihood of it being thrown.
However, if the suitcase lacks good wheels, handlers may need to toss it to stay on schedule.
The concern is that if there are valuable or fragile items inside, they could be at risk of getting damaged.
Luggage without wheels is more likely to be thrown, and even suitcases with four wheels can face the same problem if one of the wheels is faulty.
To help protect your belongings, Adam advises selecting luggage with four reliable wheels, a soft interior lining, and a hard outer shell.
Wheels are important because they reduce the need for the luggage to be thrown in the holding area, and the soft lining helps keep items cushioned.
Additionally, Adam suggests using luggage tags to help prevent your suitcase from getting lost or mixed up with others.
Baggage handlers often encounter many suitcases that look exactly alike on the same flight.
