Vietnam is pulling out all the stops to bring tourists back to Ha Giang Province, especially after Typhoon Yagi. One of their latest strategies? Staycation discounts for travelers!

According to VN Express on Friday (18/10/2014), the chairman of Ha Giang’s Tourism Association, Lai Quoc Tinh, announced that hotels in the area are offering attractive discounts for visitors.

Hotels and motels in unaffected areas are fully operational and ready to welcome guests. The peak tourist season in this mountainous region runs during the spring and autumn, from March to May and September to November, when the weather is most pleasant.

Since early October, travel agencies have been conducting site visits to assess the current situation. Ha Giang has also planted buckwheat flowers and renovated key tourist attractions and historical landmarks to make the area even more appealing.

For those unfamiliar with Ha Giang, this stunning region boasts three major tourist areas:

Western Ha Giang, renowned for its national heritage rice terraces in Hoang Su Phi and Xin Man.
Vi Xuyen, a spiritual destination with sacred temples, three national treasures, and a cemetery for soldiers who fell along the northern border between 1979 and 1989.

Ha Giang has been hit hard by natural disasters recently, with flooding in August and Typhoon Yagi in September, leading many travelers to cancel their trips last month. This caused some restaurants to temporarily close due to a lack of customers, and local businesses saw a dip in revenue.

Currently, most visitors are international tourists, while domestic travelers remain cautious about safety after the recent disasters.

But Nguyen Hong Hai, director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, reassures everyone that safety measures are fully in place. There are no travel restrictions in the area, and National Route 2 has been reopened for two weeks now. Boat tours on the Nho Que River are back in action, and Ma Pi Leng Pass is clear of any traffic issues.

“Tourist safety is fully guaranteed,” he confirmed.

Ha Giang is famous for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. You can catch:

  • Plum, pear, and peach blossoms from January to March.
  • Bombax and azalea flowers in April and May.
  • Spiritual tours and visits to historical battlefields from June to July.
  • Golden rice terraces in August and September.
  • And don’t forget the famous buckwheat flowers that bloom from October to December.

This area is also known for its vibrant festivals. In 2023, Ha Giang attracted over three million visitors, generating VND 7.1 trillion (USD 295 million) and contributing to 10% of the province’s GDP.
