The Emirates flight to Dubai that departed from Delhi was delayed for a period of 14.5 hours as a result of a bird strike incident. The bird struck the plane upon landing at the Delhi airport which means that the plane required repair.

The Emirates flight which is designated EK517 and which is operated between the Delhi airport and Dubai airport made a normal flight operation before arriving on the day of 17th October 2026 despite having a problem upon arrival due to the collision with a bird which has forced the company to maintain its flight machine to enable further operations.

The Emirates flight that was supposed to leave Delhi to Dubai at around 4:25 p.m local time on 17th October was forced to stay for about 14.5 hours in the facility before departing at around 7:00 a.m local time on 18th October after being repaired.

Emirates did not declare the amount of affected passengers in a clear manner but emphasized the fact that they booked hotel stays for the travelers who needed waiting for their ride to a different location.

Emirates’ representatives expressed regrets about the incident and assured that the safety of passengers along and flight crew remains number one priority for the company.

“Emirates regrets the inconvenience caused. The safety of its passengers along with the crew is of utmost importance to the airline,” said Emirates.

The plane has to be repaired before it can continue flying.

Delhi Airport has reported an increase in bird strikes.

Now, the authorities are worried and try to find out the reasons for it.

According to the experts, the major factors leading to the increase in bird strikes include poor waste disposal during the last couple of years and the sale of meat products nearby as these attract birds.

One of the actions is concerning bird population around the airport.

How Dangerous Are Bird Strikes for Aircraft?

Bird strikes are some of the most frequent wildlife incidents in aviation. The danger is considerably more significant when the airplane takes off, climbs, approaches, and lands, as it is at lower altitudes, where birds usually fly.

The International Civil Aviation Organization processes thousands of wildlife strike reports worldwide every year. In the meantime, the United States Federal Aviation Administration counts more than 15,000 annual strikes that usually involve birds.

Even though bird strikes happen frequently, only some lead to serious accidents. Most of them do not lead to damage to aircraft.

Aviation Safety Remains the Main concern

The event that took place in the Emirates serves as an example of how even a normal incident can lead to the interruption of flights and a series of service checks. Although the incident delayed travelers flying from Deli to Dubai, the airline put inspection and repairs before sending the airplane back to operations.

Better waste management at the airports and taking steps to reduce birds attraction remain vital in the elimination of bird-strike risk as well as ensuring safety for the passengers, crew members, and aircraft.
