A physician from Uzbekistan has received accolades for how rapidly he responded when a lady on board faced a medical emergency while flying to Korea. As a result of his actions, the plane was able to make it to Seoul without needing to land somewhere else in an emergency.

The event took place on Uzbekistan Airways’ journey from Tashkent to Seoul on Sunday, October 11. Dr. Hasan Kamilov, specializing in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care, sprang into action after hearing the announcement from the crew about requiring medical assistance on the flight.

“When I heard the announcement, I was on my feet in no time,” Hasan recalled about his speed in responding to the emergency on that flight.

Passenger’s Illness Worsened While on Board

As Dr. Hasan described the situation, the woman was unable to control her body and also had trouble listening to the instructions. She was in a critical condition with her diastolic blood pressure reportedly plummeting to only 20mmHg.

The flight attendant took care of the passenger for around 15 minutes since the flight crew was gearing up for potential emergency landing.

“The pilot was preparing all for the emergency landing though I did my part being their doctor,” Hasan noted.

His actions helped preserve the balance in the situation and allowed the flight to continue its planned path.

Footage of a doctor’s actions went viral

Later, a recording of the event was widely spread over various social media platforms bringing much publicity to Hasan’s behavior during the emergency on the plane.

In the video, one can clearly see how he provides the passenger with oxygen numerous times and makes her an injection.

The incident has also raised questions regarding the possible legal implications that may concern doctors involved in emergencies outside hospitals and facilities, given that there’s a chance of a patient death no matter how much effort is devoted to saving the patient by medical experts.

Hasan admitted to being aware of the consequences of his actions, but, from his point of view, helping the person in trouble was more important than any possible complications stemming from his decision.

His words indicate Hasan’s sense of responsibility that forced him to act without taking into consideration the existing uncertainties in passenger’s condition.

Uzbekistan Airways praises the actions of the doctor and crew.

In a release made public on Tuesday, October 13, the airline credited the doctor and the flight attendants for their quick response.

“On behalf of the entire airline, we express our heartfelt gratitude to Hasan Bakhriddinovich for his kindness, extraordinary professionalism, and desire to assist in a moment of emergency,” said the airline.

Hasan acted quickly to save a clien in trouble while sufficiently demonstrating that timely medical intervention can make a difference at high altitudes.
