Flight Attendant Warns Passengers Not to Store Important Items in Seat Pockets

In the course of an airplane flight, an airplane passenger’s seat pocket can come in handy for placing a few basic belongings. However, according to a former flight attendant, if passengers start using it for placing something they need as soon as they reach their land destination, they can face serious difficulties when they finally arrive at the place of their destination.

Fogwell, who worked as an attendant on flights from 1997 to 2019, spent 17 years of her 22-year working career working in John F. Kennedy International Airport where she had a chance to study many habits of the passengers, including the ones that could turn connection vacation into an unpleasant experience.

One of these habits concerns the practice of putting personal belongings in the seat pocket while flying. The list of these belongings can include wallets, passports, laptops, medicines, and important papers.

The trouble often starts with the diversion of the passengers at the very end of the flight.

How Airplane Seat Pockets Can Cause Issues

According to Fogwell, things that are left on the plane will only come to light once the cleaning team gets to work after the people have exited the plane. When the person realizes that something is lost, it won’t be enough to simply return to the spot they occupied.

Normal procedure is that once the traveler leaves the plane, they cannot get back in. This means that in order to get objects left behind in the aircraft, the traveler has to call the airport staff to help him in the search.

In some cases, for passengers that are connecting on different flights or traveling internationally, the delay can be very stressful. In particular cases, if a passport was lost, it can add even more trouble to the experience.

That is why Fogwell recommends returning everything that had been taken out during the flight back into the carry bag or backpack without delay.

This small tip can make it so that the people’ experience before landing will be less bothersome. It can simplify the process of retrieving essential belongings from various compartments.

Seat Pockets Can Hogwash Health Fears

While seat pockets make life easier for passengers, they can also accumulate unexpected stuff during the journey. Reportedly, tissues, candy wrappers, and even used diapers can be found there.

Hence, some passengers prefer to carry their belongings in personal bags than place them in seat pockets.

In fact, it’s not the avoidance of the seat pocket itself but rather its sensible usage which matters here. When it comes to items that need to be taken off the plane, such belongings should go into a personal bag.

Just a few seconds on making sure not to leave anything at the seat before getting off the plane can save you a lot of trouble afterwards.
