Due to a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, Thailand was impacted by a large earthquake last week. The good news is that all the airports in Thailand are now fully operational. Additionally, authorities have ensured travelers that tourism is still operating.

Flights Resumed, Airports Operational

As stated by the Bangkok Post on the 31st of March 2025: Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) inspected and cleared six international airports which include Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, and Suvarnabhumi airports. All of these airports resumed normal operations at 2:30 PM on Friday according to my latest sources, AoT inspections cover all areas of the airport and their respective fixtures including but not limited to: Terminals, Runways, Taxiways, Boarding Bridges, Service systems.

As confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), all international flights in Bangkok are functioning normally.

Assurances From The Government For The Tourists

Minister of Tourism Sorawong Thienthong on Saturday claimed there were no disruptions in tourism in Thailand. However, government officials are still investigating the region in terms of property damage and other casualties.

“Business is normal, and all tourist sites are functioning as expected,” he remarked.

To alleviate concerns, Sorawong inspected the area himself and posted on Twitter on Saturday:

“Transit, lodging, other activities, and even hosting of large events is unrestricted. Probes are being held to make certain for security. There’s a palpable presence of tourism law enforcement within the principal points of interest.”

In the same vein, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) also purged any doubt by proclaiming that Bangkok resumed both economic and social activity, at least on the surface, as routine security operations will still prevail.

Is It Advisable to Go to Thailand at This Time?

Affirmative! Although some other nations have requested their citizens to exercise caution, the main attractions such as Phuket, Pattaya and many more were not influenced by the quake.

Nevertheless, many areas that suffered substantial damages are still under rescue and recovery operations. For the time being, it is advised that tourists stay away from certain areas as officials work to remove debris and make the area safe.

So there you have it – Thailand is open for business and you can go on that vacation without worries!
