Ever dreamed of playing an epic game of hide-and-seek on a deserted island? Well, Japan’s got you covered!

According to Soranews24 on Saturday (July 27, 2024), the Japan Hide-and-Seek Association is planning to hold a wild event on Tsumaga Island, a tiny uninhabited speck off the coast of Iki Island in Nagasaki Prefecture. This ultimate game of hide-and-seek is set for November 3-4, 2024.

The association is on the lookout for 100 eager participants: 90 will hide while 10 will play the “oni” (the seekers). The only requirement? A youthful spirit ready to dive into the game like a kid on a sugar rush.

Imagine the thrill of hiding under the stars, with the only sounds being the waves and your heartbeat as an oni gets closer!

The game will last two hours. Once an oni finds someone hiding, the found person becomes an oni too. The player who hides the longest and the oni who finds the most people will win prizes. Onis get half the points their “victims” earned while hiding. So, if you manage to stay hidden for an hour, you rack up 60 points. If an oni finds you, they score 30 points and continue their hunt.

Expect to see some top-notch hiders from Japan’s national hide-and-seek team and even the Japan Self-Defense Forces joining the fun.

Interested? Registration opens on August 25. The entry fee is 24,800 Yen, covering meals and island rental costs. There’s also a deluxe package for 45,800 Yen that includes an extra night at a nearby ryokan and some sightseeing before the big game.

The association is also recruiting volunteers to help run the event. If you want to lend a hand, there’s a pre-game event on August 24-25 for 30 volunteers. The volunteer fee is 13,800 Yen, and it includes playing hide-and-seek and learning how to manage the event.

Though the event is organized by the Japan Hide-and-Seek Association in hopes of finding talent to represent Japan in international competitions, it’s open to all nationalities. However, a good grasp of Japanese is crucial to follow the rules and instructions.

So, if you’re up for a quirky adventure and think you’ve got what it takes to outsmart the seekers, mark your calendar and get ready to hide like never before!
