Tulum Beach in Mexico’s Quintana Roo has been crowned the beach with the whitest sand on the planet, surpassing other picturesque beaches worldwide.
As reported by The Independent on Wednesday (28/8/2024), this ranking comes from a study by luxury travel company CV Villas. The company applied color analysis techniques to images sourced from Google Maps, analyzing 200 beaches across the globe to identify the one with the whitest sand.
The results placed Tulum Beach at the top, beating out Anse Source D’Argent in Seychelles, which came in second. Notably, Seychelles’ beach was the only African destination to make it into the top 30.
While white sand beaches are often associated with warm, tropical climates, the top 30 list surprisingly includes several European beaches.
Among them is Marmari Beach on Kos, a Greek island, which secured a spot in the top 30. Italy made a strong showing with Tropea Beach ranking fourth and Cala Brandinchi taking eighth place.
In Spain, Platja de Muro in Mallorca tied with Tropea Beach, and Cala Pluma in Ibiza ranked sixth. France’s Plague de Valras came in at seventh.
The Bahamas also made the list, with Stocking Island Beach ranking ninth.
