A luxury cruise ship got stranded in Belfast, Northern Ireland due to urgent repairs. While many passengers were frustrated by the delay, one couple found love amidst the wait.
According to the New York Post on Wednesday (October 2, 2024), the Villa Vie Odyssey being docked in Belfast gave passengers plenty of time to explore the Northern Irish capital. Among those passengers were Angela Harsanyi and Gian Perroni.
They met in Belfast just last month as they were about to embark on a three-year cruise with 425 destinations.
Harsanyi, 53, from Colorado, USA, and Perroni, 62, from Canada, initially had to stay in local hotels due to the cruise delay. But, unexpectedly, they found a deeper connection.
“It was about an hour’s walk each way, and during that time, we really started to discover how similar we are and how much we truly enjoy each other’s company. We realized that an hour of walking wasn’t enough… We found that we had more in common and wanted to be more than just friends,” she added.
Now, the couple has matching tattoos and plans to get married aboard the ship in April next year while cruising between the Panama Canal and Costa Rica, a place Perroni once lived. The ship’s captain will officiate the ceremony.
Harsanyi had purchased the luxury cruise about two and a half years ago, wanting to embark on a new adventure in her life.
Perroni, on the other hand, had been tired of his repetitive routine. When he received the cruise information in his inbox, he knew instantly that he had to go for it.
The ship is expected to resume its journey in the coming weeks, and Perroni and Harsanyi will get to enjoy their time at sea together, even though they’ve both grown fond of Belfast.
The country is spectacular. If there were more sunshine, I’d stay here forever,” Harsanyi said.
