Now, let’s not kid ourselves – no one is challenging Changi in the race for ‘greatest airport in the world’. This place has repeatedly proven that it is much more than just a layover ben.

An Airport Or A City?

For anyone that has had the Changi experience, it’s as close to a mini holiday as you could get. There is Jewel, the state of the art 10-storey shopping and entertainment complex that boasts of everything from luxury retailer to the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, the 40 meter Rain Vortex.

It gets better; you have access to art galleries, movie theaters, spas, and even hotels located within the terminals. We might as well bid farewell to leaving the airport.

There’s More Than Meets The Eye

It also provided awards for The Best Airport Restaurants and, best of all, The Best Airport Toilets. Trophies are indeed being won.

They also received Best Airport In Asia at the awards held in Madrid on April 9th.

More Is Coming — Like, A LOT More

If you think Changi is done growing, think again. The airport is currently constructing a fifth terminal which is projected to be completed in the 2030s. They are spending over $2 billion just to improve the experience. Four terminals were not enough apparently, and we are not complaining.

Who Else Made the List?

Changi might be the GOAT, but these are the other participants from Skytrax’s 2025 Top 20 list:

  • Changi Airport, Singapore
  • Hamad International, Qatar – super luxurious, and a hotspot for shopping
  • Tokyo Haneda, Japan
  • Incheon International, South Korea
  • Narita International, Japan
  • Hong Kong International
  • Paris Charles de Gaulle, France
  • Rome Fiumicino, Italy
  • Munich Airport, Germany
  • Zurich Airport, Switzerland

…and it goes on with Dubai, Istanbul, Amsterdam, and Melbourne making a strong showing.

Speaking of Hamad Airport…

Enham prett clceond sdywords, Doha’s Hamad International claimed second place and honestly, that airport is a work of art — literally. From wild sculptures to mind-blowing design, it’s basically a high-end gallery with airplanes. It also won awards for Best Shopping and Best in the Middle East.

Last Reflections While Getting On Board

In its splendid form, Changi is far beyond being an airport – it is a full blown experience in itself. Travelers all over the world know its exquisite butterfly garden and waterfall, in addition to world-class lounges available at the site which are unmatched throughout the globe. And yes, if you have not laid over at the airport, then you really are missing something in your life.

Thus, for your future long distance travels, do plan a stopover at Changi for a few hours (or even for several days!). You will never remember being at an airport.
