In the event all progresses as figured, we could soon see the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport located out of Florida as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”.
The airport in question, located within the city of Palm Beach (known for its beaches, luxury properties, and elite lifestyles), is just a few minutes away from Mar-A-Lago, the private club/ residence owned by Donald Trump. Additionally, this provides a fitting geographic representation of this relationship.
According to an AFP report, the Florida Legislature on Thursday, February19th approved a bill to officially rename the Palm Beach International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Governor Ron DeSantis, formerly seen as a potential rival of Trump, is expected to sign the bill into law allowing its implementation, but federal approval still has to be obtained in order for the name change to take effect.
The federal aviation systems and documentation require FAA to be included with the processes to rename airports, and thus, the FAA must approve those changes prior to becoming permanent within all operating systems.
Donald Trump is known for placing his name on multiple properties around the globe, including hotels, residential buildings, golf courses, and more. An airport named Trump would further cement his branding strategy for public infrastructure; doing so at this level is uncommon.
Supporters of renaming the airport see this as proof of his recognition, while opponents describe this as political symbolism. Regardless of your political belief, this act shows that Donald Trump has influence in Florida and will continue having that influence in other parts of the country.
Airport renameings frequently have deep cultural or historical connections attached to them. The area that Mar-a-Lago is located in provides even more depth and historical relevance to the actual short-term history, as it directly ties the hub of transportation with Donald Trump for both his presence as a citizen and as President of the United States.
As airlines will continue their normal operations of importing and exporting mankind from one location to another, soon, the name on your airline ticket; in addition to maps and signage related to the airport; could soon have Donald Trump’s name attached to it.
It is likely that once has been signed by the Governor and there has been federal approval, Palm Beach will host another historic aviation facility that carries the name of Donald Trump — it can be added to all of the other buildings, structures, etc., that also carry Donald Trump’s name.
