Passengers aboard a Dubai Airlines flight have described how the aircraft suddenly plummeted thousands of feet with them on it. One of the passengers, Adam, said that the first disturbance felt normal but quickly changed into an abnormal fall.
Adam noted that, at first, the disturbance felt like standard turbulence, but the descent and the rapid acceleration of the aircraft made him realize that it was not a normal occurrence. Adam shared that the descent and acceleration felt different.
As the situation escalated, it was reported that the aircraft lost its electrical systems, in-flight entertainment, and air conditioning. Passengers that were on their feet or coming back from the restroom were thrown to the floor due to turbulence.
“Those who were not buckled up fell backwards. It was like being on the wildest theme park ride there ever was, multiplied by 1000,” said Adam.
According to reports, the airplane dived about 17,400 feet in under the two minutes, which led to chaos in the cabin. Passengers screamed loudly because of the violent movements throughout the airplane.
The plane that was flying from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to Tel Aviv in Israel was supposed to cross through Jordanian airspace into Saudi Arabia. There was a general emergency signal sent by the airplane.
It has landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia, all passengers said to be alive.
According to reports, subsequent investigations have revealed that the emergency incident was due to a tussle between the members of the flight crew. There is some suspicion that the co-pilot deliberately tried crashing the plane and stabbed the other pilot, Captain Smit Machchha.
The emergency incident raises serious questions about the confrontation in the cockpit and the cause of the sudden descent of the plane. The passengers experienced some moments of uncertainty during the flight; yet, the safe landing ensured that all passengers survived.
The testimony from Adam gives an idea of how frightened the passengers were during the unfolding incident. In particular, the families travelling with children were completely unaware of what was happening inside the cockpit.
