Sydney to London Without a Stop? Qantas Is Finally Making It Happen

Australia21 Views

Getting from Australia to the UK will soon be a lot more convenient with the introduction of nonstop flights. Starting from October 2027, Qantas is all set to start its nonstop flights from Sydney to London, thus reducing two hours on the longest flight in the world, and also eliminating the trouble of waiting to board different planes in between.

For all the people who have been using connecting flights for years and have gone through all the hassles of layovers in Asia, it is definitely a great news.

Qantas says that the new flights will be launched as part of its ongoing Project Sunrise, an ambitious program which has been in the making for almost a decade now. Though the idea has seen many delays during this time period, it has finally started taking shape.

People will now be able to complete the journey within 19 hours without changing planes, which means less waiting time as well as boarding passes. More importantly, this all comes thanks to the introduction of this new AIRCRAFT type, which is the main reason has made it all feasible.

Qantas will run the flight with Airbus A350-1000ULR, which is a plane meant specifically for long-distance flights. To achieve much distance, the airplane would have extra fuel tanks with the capacity of 20000 liters. This allows the airplane to stay in air for up to 22 hours without stopping for re-fueling.

Though the distance becomes very extensive, Qantas does not think about the number of passengers to carry.

Qantas will use the aircraft set with a small number of 238 seats divided into 4 classes allowing passengers to enjoy some comfort during the long period of time spent on the air.

For nearly nine years, Qantas has wanted Project Sunrise. Aircraft development and other challenges caused the airline to delay its plans indefinitely. Now that testing is successful, Qantas believes the time has finally arrived for the project to take off.

According to Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson, Qantas has always wanted to make traveling between Australia and the world shorter. Hudson said the new nonstop flight will be the most advanced in Qantas’ history.

Travellers won’t have to wait until the launch date to book tickets as they will go on sale in February 2027.

Upon the launch of the Sydney and London route, Qantas is set to announce a new nonstop ultra-long-haul service from Sydney to New York City. More information regarding this new development will be released next year.

Australian authorities believe that the new route will not only bring high-speed travel but also much more to the region. There will be an increase in business exchanges and tourism thanks to faster trips from Australia to the UK.

The project seems to be on the right track, and very soon travelers will be able to board the plane from Sydney, relax in their chairs, sleep, watch movies, eat, and wake up in London without any layovers.
