So, Phu Quoc is in a bit of a pickle. Tourists hitting the island feel like it’s more of a letdown and are having second thoughts about coming back.

According to Vietnam Express on Wednesday (December 13, 2023), Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s biggest island, has been trying to keep up in the tourism game for about 20 years, going head-to-head with the likes of Thailand and Indonesia.

But lately, Phu Quoc seems to be getting the cold shoulder. A lot of visitors are just not vibing with what Phu Quoc is putting on the table.

Folks who explored Phu Quoc back in the ’90s say the island used to be genuinely stunning. Mother Nature was flexing, and the local culture was a real head-turner.

Their bummer vibes come from all the construction buzz on Phu Quoc. Many tourists who were hoping for some untamed beauty found themselves smack in the middle of man-made tourist traps.

Picture this: fancy-pants resorts springing up on the beach. The thing is, the leftovers from all that building jazz and random trash are just left hanging around, messing up the whole beachy vibe..

And it’s not just that. The hotels are burning holes in wallets too.

“I swung by Phu Quoc, and guess what? The hotels cost more than in Phuket or Bali. And compared to those two spots, Phu Quoc is missing the cool hangout spots and swanky entertainment,” another tourist shared.

Someone who claimed to have lived there spilled the tea, saying Phu Quoc is getting grungier day by day.
